Rob Urwin

Rob has a wealth of experience in business development and sales in the global telecommunications sector. His specific areas of expertise are the satellite and wireless markets where he has a proven track record in developing customer focused products and services.

Rob started his career at GEC Plessey Telecoms. He then went on to work for some major global operators in senior roles. For example:

Co-founder and Director - New Wave Broadband (supplier of managed Broadband Maritime Services)
Business Development Manager, MSS Broadband - Stratos Global Inc
Senior Product Manager, Voice Messaging Services - T-Mobile
Product Innovations Manager, Inmarsat GAN & MPDS - BT Aeronautical & Maritime Services (A&M)

Some key achievements during his career include:

As a founder member and company director, played major role in creation of NewWave Broadband from a start-up to a medium-sized company in 5 years, with triple digit growth yr on yr;
At Stratos, played major role in the creation of a UK broadband bid management group aimed at selling broadband services into MSS channels and was commended by the Stratos CEO for quality of bid submission to UN.
At T-Mobile responsible for Profit & Loss of Voice Messaging products and driving business cases through the T-Mobile board including the replacement of legacy voice messaging platforms which formed the basis for a range of successful new products including Call Return, Multi-Media Messaging and Voice-controlled Personal Assistant;
Responsible for development of a new range of very successful voice and high speed data/IP services for BT A&M, including Inmarsat High Speed Data (HSD), Mobiq and Inmarsat GAN from business case development, service specification, supplier contract placement and then to product management;
Drove the technical and commercial case for operating services at low satellite elevation in the Indian Ocean which resulted in the creation of a major new business stream for BT A&M;
In BT A&M, played major role in creation of service provider business model which helped make Mobiq the most successful Inmarsat service product to date.
AT BT, successfully managed the 5 yr development contract to implement Inmarsat B and M services which enabled BT to be first to market with the Inmarsat M service.

Rob has a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) from the School of Electronic Engineering, University of Liverpool.
